HDFC Life Insurance has received an appeal order confirming the GST demand, along with applicable interest and penalty, in a case covering the period from July 1, 2017, to March 31, 2022, as per an exchange filing dated September 11, 2026. The order was issued on September 10, 2026.

The order was passed by the Commissioner (Appeals-III), CGST & Central Excise, Mumbai, Maharashtra. It confirms the amounts mentioned in the GST order that HDFC Life had earlier disclosed in February 2025.

₹942.18 Crore Tax Demand

The original GST order included a tax demand of ₹942.18 crore. It also carried a penalty of ₹2,422.97 crore, while interest was to be paid as applicable.

Together, the tax demand and penalty amount to ₹3,365.15 crore, excluding the interest component. The proceedings relate to transactions and tax matters during the period between July 2017 and March 2022.

Earlier GST Order

HDFC Life had received the original order from the Additional Commissioner, CGST & Central Excise, Palghar Commissionerate, Maharashtra, on February 5, 2025.

The company subsequently disclosed the details of the order on February 6, 2025. The latest appeal order confirms the total tax demand, including interest and penalty, referred to in that earlier order.

Matter To Go Before Tribunal

The latest order does not bring the dispute to an end. HDFC Life has said it will further contest the matter by filing an appeal before the GST Appellate Tribunal.

The company has also stated that the appeal order will have no adverse material impact on its financial operations. The disclosure does not provide any further details on the financial treatment of the demand.
