GRSE Share Price in Focus; Joint Expansion with YIL to Boost Indigenous Defence Production in West Bengal

On August 24, 2026, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) and Yantra India Limited (YIL) have embarked on a major expansion of their shipbuilding and defence manufacturing capabilities in West Bengal, as per the exchange filings.  

This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Defence, aims to strengthen indigenous production and align with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India vision. 

GRSE's Capacity Expansion Projects 

GRSE is undertaking capacity expansion initiatives at three facilities: Raichak, Timber Pond at Shalimar, and Damodar at Khidderpore Docks.  

The Raichak facility will be developed as a shipbuilding hub with an investment of over ₹2,500 crore, featuring a 200-metre dry dock and facilities for constructing warships up to 200 metres.  

The Timber Pond facility will be rejuvenated with ₹100 crore for medium-sized shipbuilding and repairs, while the Damodar facility will receive ₹70 crore for vessel repairs and construction of electric ferries. 

YIL's Defence Manufacturing Enhancements 

YIL is investing over ₹750 crore in two facilities at its Metal and Steel Factory in Ishapore. These include a ₹277.59 crore Heavy Duty Hydraulic Open Die Forging Press and a ₹473.84 crore Radial Forging Plant.  

These facilities will enhance indigenous metallurgical and defence manufacturing, supporting sectors such as defence, railway, and strategic industries. 

Strategic Importance and Government Support 

The expansion projects were inaugurated by Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Defence Minister of India, and Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal.  

The projects are expected to boost employment and create opportunities for ancillary industries, particularly MSMEs, in West Bengal.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Share Price Performance
