Engineers India Share Price Surged Over 5% After Securing Over $450 Million Dangote Refinery Contract in Kenya

Engineers India Limited (EIL) has secured a sizeable overseas contract from Dangote Group for a new refinery and petrochemical project in Kenya. The contract is valued at more than $450 million, giving EIL another major assignment with the African conglomerate.
The planned refinery will have a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day (BPD). Dangote is developing the project to meet demand in East Africa and process a wider range of crude.
EIL Gets PMC and EPCM Mandate
EIL will work on the project as both the Project Management Consultant (PMC) and EPCM Consultant. The assignment covers the engineering and project management side of the refinery and petrochemical development.
The contract agreement has been signed between Dangote Group and EIL for the project.
700,000 BPD Facility Planned
The Kenya refinery is being planned as a greenfield project with a capacity of 700,000 BPD. According to EIL, the facility is intended to increase fuel production within East Africa and reduce the region's reliance on imports.
The company also said the project is expected to support regional energy security and supply petroleum products to global markets once completed.
EIL and Dangote Have Worked Together Before
The Kenya project builds on an existing relationship between the two companies. EIL was the PMC and EPCM Consultant for Dangote's 650,000 BPD refinery and petrochemical complex at the Lekki Free Zone.
That refinery has already been commissioned, while EIL is also working on its expansion to 1.4 million BPD.
Dangote Expands Its African Footprint
The Kenya refinery is part of Dangote Group's expansion into East Africa.
The group operates across 17 African countries and has interests ranging from oil and gas and petrochemicals to cement, fertilisers, sugar and food.
