Defence Stocks Rally: MTAR, Astra Microwave Share Price Jump as Sector Outperforms Market

Defence stocks surged up to 6% as the Nifty India Defence index rose 8% in April, beating Nifty 50. Orders, drone roadmap and strong outlook boosted sentiment.

Shares of defence-related companies gained up to 6% during Tuesday’s intraday trading on the NSE. The rally was led by Astra Microwave Products and MTAR Technologies, which climbed close to their 52-week highs.

Other defence companies including Zen Technologies, Data Patterns India, Dynamatic Technologies, Mishra Dhatu Nigam, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bharat Dynamics Limited, and Cochin Shipyard Limited rose between 1% and 3%.

Defence Index Outperforms the Market

The Nifty India Defence index increased about 0.76% during the day, compared to a 0.17% gain in the Nifty 50. So far in April, the defence index has surged 8%, clearly beating the benchmark index’s 3% rise.

MTAR Technologies Gets New Order

MTAR Technologies has gained around 11% in the last 4 trading sessions. On April 1, the company announced a new purchase order worth $3.78 million (about ₹35.56 crore) from a new energy-sector client for data-centre infrastructure products.

Army’s Drone Roadmap Boosts Sector Outlook

The Indian Army released a major technology roadmap for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and loitering munitions.

The plan covers nearly 80 drone and unmanned system variants across surveillance, air defence, logistics and special operations. This signals a growing focus on large-scale, low-cost drone warfare.
