Dabur share price came under pressure after the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a prohibition order against the sale of several food products marketed with unverified "100%" claims.

The order relates to a range of Dabur's food products, including honey, cow ghee, edible oils, apple cider vinegar, coconut water, and coconut milk. The development has drawn attention to the company's food business, even as its broader portfolio spans healthcare, personal care, and wellness products.

FSSAI Flags Misleading '100%' Claims

According to the prohibition order, promotional claims such as "100% Natural", "100% Pure", and "100% Organic" do not comply with the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising & Claims) Regulations, 2018. FSSAI stated that these claims are ambiguous, cannot be scientifically verified, and have the potential to mislead consumers.

The regulator also noted that certain organic products displayed the Jaivik Bharat logo without the necessary authorisation. It added that despite issuing an earlier notice, the company did not take satisfactory corrective action, leading to the prohibition order.

FSSAI has directed Dabur to immediately stop the sale of the identified products and submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 15 days.

What Does This Mean for FMCG Companies?

The regulatory action underscores the increasing scrutiny of advertising and product claims in the FMCG sector. Companies making health, purity, or organic claims are expected to ensure that such statements are backed by verifiable evidence and comply with regulatory norms.

Conclusion

While Dabur's diversified product portfolio may help cushion the long-term impact, the prohibition order could create near-term headwinds for its food and beverage business. The company may incur additional costs related to packaging revisions, marketing changes, and regulatory compliance.

Investors with a demat account are likely to monitor Dabur's response to the FSSAI order, particularly the Action Taken Report, for greater clarity on the financial and operational implications. The pace at which the company resolves the compliance issues could influence investor sentiment and the future trajectory of the Dabur share price.
