Coal India Share Price in Focus; Reports 9% Rise in September 2026 Production, 12.5% Offtake Growth

Coal India’s coal offtake increased to 61.2 million tonnes (MT) in September 2026, from 54.4 MT in the year-ago month. The 6.8 MT increase translated into 12.5% growth year-on-year, according to the company’s provisional figures.
The April-September numbers were also higher. Coal India’s offtake during the six-month period stood at 384.2 MT, compared with 357 MT a year earlier, marking a 7.6% rise.
Production Higher in September
Production also picked up during the month. Coal India produced 53.5 MT in September, against 49 MT in September 2025. This was an increase of 9.2% from the corresponding month last year.
The six-month production figure, however, was lower. Output between April and September came in at 321 MT, compared with 329.1 MT during the same period last year. This amounted to a 2.5% decline.
WCL Sees Sharpest Rise
At the subsidiary level, Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) posted the highest production growth in September. Its output rose to 4.1 MT from 2.2 MT, an increase of 85.5%.
Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL) produced 5.7 MT, up 27.5%, while Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) recorded 17.6 MT, an increase of 22.3%. South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) produced 11.4 MT, up 6.1%.
Mixed Offtake Numbers
WCL also posted the biggest increase in offtake, which rose 92.7% to 5.8 MT. CCL’s offtake increased 32.2% to 6.5 MT, while MCL moved up 15.1% to 19.2 MT.
NCL was among the weaker performers, with production falling 26.1% to 8.5 MT and offtake declining 21.3% to 8.9 MT.

Coal India Share Price Performance
As of October 1, 2026, 2:45 pm, Coal India share price was trading at ₹422.80, a 0.52% decrease from the previous closing price.
Conclusion
Coal India’s September numbers showed growth in both production and offtake. The six-month figures were different, with offtake higher but cumulative production still below the previous year.
