Coal India Share Price in Focus; Declared Preferred Bidder for Gadadharpur Iron Ore Block in Odisha

Coal India Limited has been declared the preferred bidder for the Gadadharpur Iron Ore Block in Odisha's Kendujhar district.
The company disclosed the development in an exchange filing on August 6, 2026, stating that the award was made by the Government of Odisha through the state's mineral auction process.
Resource Size and Auction Terms
The Gadadharpur block is a G3 exploration stage iron ore block with an estimated resource of 288 million tonnes (MT). As per the auction conditions, Coal India will pay an auction premium of 114.05% on the value of minerals dispatched to the Government of Odisha.
The block has been awarded under the domestic auction route, with Coal India securing preferred bidder status.
Lease to Be Executed in Phases
Being declared the preferred bidder does not amount to an immediate mining lease. According to the filing, the company has 1 year to complete the requirements needed to become the successful bidder.
The mining lease deed is then required to be executed within 3 years, subject to the applicable approvals and conditions laid down under the auction process.
Regulatory Details
The filing identifies the Government of Odisha as the authority awarding the mining lease. Coal India also stated that neither its promoters nor promoter group companies have any interest in the awarding entity.
In addition, the company confirmed that the transaction does not fall within the scope of related-party transactions.
Part of Mineral Auction Programme
The Gadadharpur block is located in Odisha's Kendujhar district, one of India's major iron ore-producing regions. The award is part of the state's ongoing mineral auction programme.
Coal India will now proceed with the next stages of the allotment process, including compliance with the conditions required before the mining lease can be executed.
