Concurrently, other operating expenses scaled up to ₹1,762.39 crore, while purchases of stock-in-trade rose sharply to ₹1,251.70 crore compared to ₹1,025.02 crore in the prior year's first quarter.
Total consolidated expenses jumped to ₹6,248.25 crore, squeezing profit before tax down to ₹1,081.93 crore from ₹1,769.93 crore in the year-ago period.
Shareholder Value and Earnings Metrics
The contraction in profit directly thinned out near-term shareholder financial metrics. Basic earnings per equity share (EPS) for the quarter dropped to ₹9.77 from ₹16.07 reported in the corresponding year-ago quarter.
Diluted EPS experienced an identical slide, landing at ₹9.76 against ₹16.06 year-on-year. Total comprehensive income attributable to the owners of the parent stood at ₹982.62 crore, contrasting with ₹1,378.82 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
