BHEL Share Price in Focus; Approves ₹65 Crore Investment in NTPC-BHEL JV

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has approved a further equity contribution of ₹65 crore to NTPC BHEL Power Projects Private Limited (NBPPL).  

The decision was taken at BHEL’s board meeting held on September 14, 2026, and was announced on the same day. The investment will be made in one or more tranches.  

Joint Venture With NTPC 

NBPPL is a joint venture between BHEL and NTPC Limited, with both companies holding 50% each. It was incorporated in April 2008 to execute engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for power plants and manufacture power plant equipment.  

Purpose of the Funding 

The proposed investment is primarily meant to help NBPPL settle urgent liabilities and maintain the company as a going concern. BHEL has not disclosed any change in its existing shareholding as part of the transaction.  

Cash Investment at Face Value 

The ₹65 crore contribution will be made in cash at face value. The disclosure states that both promoter companies will make the equity investment at face value and that the transaction will be carried out on an arm’s-length basis.  

No government or regulatory approval is applicable for the investment.  

Completion in FY27 

BHEL has indicated financial year 2026-27 as the expected period for completing the investment. The cost of acquisition has been stated as ₹65 crore at face value. Following the contribution, BHEL’s shareholding in NBPPL will continue to stand at 50%.  

NBPPL Turnover 

NBPPL’s provisional turnover fell to ₹1.04 crore in 2025-26 from ₹3.48 crore in 2024-25. In 2023-24, its turnover was ₹18.19 crore. The company has its presence in India and operates in power plant EPC contracts and the manufacture of power plant equipment.

As of September 15, 2026, 1:04 pm, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) share price was trading at ₹422.05, a 2.08% decrease from the previous closing price. 

Conclusion 

The additional ₹65 crore equity contribution is intended to meet NBPPL’s urgent liabilities and support its continuation as a going concern. BHEL and NTPC will continue to hold equal stakes in the joint venture.
