Bharti Airtel Ltd has received a penalty notice of ₹1.71 lakh from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Madhya Pradesh Licensed Service Area (LSA), over alleged violations related to subscriber verification norms.

The company disclosed the development in an exchange filing dated May 30, 2026. The notice follows a Customer Application Form (CAF) Audit conducted by the DoT for March 2026.

Such audits are carried out periodically to assess whether telecom operators are complying with customer verification requirements prescribed under their licence agreements.

Alleged Non-Compliance Identified

Under telecom licensing conditions, operators are required to complete adequate verification of customers before enrolling them as subscribers. They must also comply with instructions issued by the DoT regarding subscriber onboarding and record maintenance.

According to the filing, the DoT alleged that Airtel had violated certain terms and conditions relating to subscriber verification norms. The observations were made during the audit of customer application forms conducted for March 2026.

Airtel Opts to Pay the Penalty

Airtel stated that it has decided not to contest the penalty. The company informed exchanges that it would proceed with payment of the amount specified in the notice.

The filing further noted that the maximum financial implication arising from the matter is limited to the penalty levied by the DoT. No additional operational or business impact was disclosed by the company.

Regulatory Filing Details

The company said it received the communication from the authority on May 29, 2026. The notice imposes a financial penalty of ₹1,71,000 for the alleged violations identified during the audit process.
