Ministry of Defence has signed a major capital acquisition contract with Bharat Electronics Limited for the procurement of two mountain radars for the Indian Air Force. The contract, valued at ~₹1,950 crore, was signed in New Delhi on March 31, 2026, in the presence of senior officials from the ministry and the company.
The mountain radar system has been indigenously designed and developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, a key laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The radar will be manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited, a leading defence electronics manufacturer in India.
These advanced radar systems are designed to operate effectively in mountainous terrain and will enhance surveillance and early warning capabilities for the Indian Air Force.
The installation and commissioning of these radars are expected to strengthen India’s air defence infrastructure and improve the country’s ability to monitor and respond to potential aerial threats. The project aligns with the government’s focus on enhancing indigenous defence manufacturing and reducing reliance on imported military equipment.
The contract has been awarded under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, which prioritises domestically developed defence technologies.
On April 1, 2026, BEL share price opened at ₹415.00. At 1:37 PM, the share price of BEL was trading at ₹422.30, up by 5.4% on the NSE.
