Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, reported a net loss of ₹68.09 crore for the quarter ended June 2026 (Q1 FY27). In the same quarter last year, the company had posted a net profit of ₹176.87 crore.

The decline in earnings was mainly due to lower revenue and higher operating expenses during the quarter.

Revenue Declines Due to Lower Coal Dispatches

BCCL's revenue from operations stood at ₹3,587.27 crore in Q1 FY27, compared to ₹3,719.59 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

The company said that sales declined because outside coal dispatches fell to 7.81 million tonnes from 8.83 million tonnes a year earlier.

BCCL also noted that its other income decreased, mainly because of lower write-backs of provisions and liabilities.

Expenses Increase During the Quarter

Total expenses for the June quarter rose to ₹3,826.31 crore, compared to ₹3,654.39 crore in the year-ago period. The increase in costs, along with lower revenue, impacted the company's overall profitability.
