Bank of Baroda has entered into a strategic collaboration with Reliance Jio to widen access to digital banking by introducing a feature phone-compatible banking application, “bob World Lite”.
The initiative is aimed at extending banking services to customers who use feature phones rather than smartphones.
As part of the partnership, the bob World Lite application will be integrated into JioPhone Prima 4G devices, allowing users to access banking services directly through their handset interface. Existing users of the device will also be able to install the application through JioStore.
The rollout is designed to improve digital banking accessibility for a large segment of consumers who continue to rely on feature phones.
At launch, the application offers a range of core banking functions including UPI-based payments, money transfers, utility bill payments, mobile recharges, and account profile management.
Bank of Baroda has indicated that the app’s functionality will be expanded over time with additional features to enhance the overall user experience.
The partnership supports the bank’s broader strategy of improving financial inclusion and reaching underserved customer segments through technology-led delivery channels.
By enabling banking on feature phones, the lender aims to bridge accessibility gaps in markets where smartphone penetration remains limited.
“Our partnership with Jio to launch bob World Lite is a significant step towards extending digital banking beyond the smartphone ecosystem. With a large and growing base of feature phone users in India, this initiative enables simple, secure, and anytime banking while helping bridge the digital divide.
This initiative also opens up opportunities for us to onboard and engage with a wider customer base, reinforcing our commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth,” said Debadatta Chand, Managing Director & CEO, Bank of Baroda, as per news reports.
