Balu Forge Industries Ltd has received a multi-month contract for 155 mm Extended Range Full Bore (ERFB) Base Bleed and Boat Tail shells, as per the exchange filings. The order follows the company's successful execution and commercialisation of the ammunition variants.

Initial Supply of 10,000 Units

The company said it has received its first purchase order for these variants from an Indian ammunition player. The initial pilot supply will comprise 10,000 units, after which monthly supplies will begin in quantities agreed between the parties.

Balu Forge said the successful commercialisation makes it one of the first private entities to commercialise this ammunition variant.

Shells Used with Indian Artillery Systems

The company's release said 155 mm ERFB Base Bleed and Boat Tail shells are used by the Indian armed forces.

The ERFB rounds are fired from systems including the 45-calibre Dhanush, which has a stated range of up to 38 km, and the 52-calibre ATAGS, where the ERFB-BB round has a maximum range of 48 km.

The company also said the projectiles meet NATO specifications and are compatible with platforms including the K9 Vajra-T and M777 howitzers.

Production Capability Expanded

Balu Forge said its work on the ERFB BB shell demonstrates its ability to manufacture the casings required for extended-range ammunition.

The company has also secured NATO certification and started mass production and commercialisation of standard 152 mm and 155 mm M107 projectiles in a "Ready to Fill" condition.

This production is being carried out at its automated Belgaum facility, which uses robotics for manufacturing.
