Axis Bank share price fell around 6% on July 20, 2026, dropping from the previous close of ₹1,328.50 to an intraday low of ₹1,249.10 on the NSE, despite the private sector lender reporting a 23% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

The decline came after investors assessed the bank's Q1 FY27 earnings, with market participants focusing on continued net interest margin (NIM) pressure despite strong profitability and improving asset quality.

Axis Bank Q1 FY27 Results

Axis Bank reported a 22.5% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to ₹7,113 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. However, the lender's Net Interest Income (NII) grew 8% YoY to ₹14,646.1 crore, slightly below market expectations.

The bank's Net Interest Margin (NIM) contracted to 3.46% in Q1 FY27 from 3.80% in the corresponding quarter last year and 3.62% in Q4 FY26, reflecting continued pressure on margins.

Asset quality saw a marginal sequential deterioration. Gross NPA (GNPA) stood at 1.28% compared with 1.23% in the March 2026 quarter, while Net NPA (NNPA) increased to 0.39% from 0.37%. In absolute terms, gross NPAs rose to ₹17,124 crore from ₹16,083 crore, while net NPAs increased to ₹5,192 crore from ₹4,789 crore.

During the quarter, provisions declined to ₹2,222.5 crore from ₹3,522 crore in the previous quarter. However, gross slippages increased to ₹5,556 crore from ₹4,675 crore. The bank reported recoveries and upgrades worth ₹2,126 crore and wrote off ₹2,399 crore of NPAs during the quarter.

Axis Bank Share Price Performance

As of July 20, 2026, at 10:22 AM, Axis Bank share price was trading at ₹1,265.00 on the NSE, down 4.78%.

During the session, the stock touched an intraday low of ₹1,249.10, representing a 5.98% decline from its previous close of ₹1,328.50.

Conclusion

Axis Bank reported a rise in Q1 FY27 profit, supported by higher net interest income and improving asset quality. However, concerns over margin pressure and the composition of its loan book influenced investors' sentiment, leading to a decline in the bank's share price during Monday's trading session.
