Adani Power signs a joint development agreement for the 770 MW Chamkharchhu-I Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan with Bhutan's state-owned Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC), in which Adani Power will have 49% stake in the newly formed firm with DGPC owning the remaining 51%, as per the exchange filing.

Central Bhutan's Zhemgang District, Chamkarchhu River site Construction is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2027, with commissioning targeted six years from groundbreaking.

Adani Power and DGPC to Share Project

The project company will be set up in Bhutan under a 49:51 equity partnership. Both Adani Power and DGPC will have the right to appoint three directors each to its board.

The project will follow the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer model, with a 30-year concession from the date of commercial operation.

Second Major Hydropower Project Between Partners

Chamkharchhu-I is the second major hydropower collaboration between the two partners. They had earlier signed an agreement for the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project in September 2025.

The latest project forms part of the broader 5,000 MW hydropower development partnership between the Adani Group and DGPC.

Management on Power Exports to India

Adani Power Managing Director Anil Sardana said the project is expected to help meet Bhutan’s peak winter electricity requirements and allow surplus green power to be exported to India during summer.

DGPC Managing Director Dasho Chhewang Rinzin said the project will support Bhutan’s winter energy security and create opportunities to export surplus clean energy to India.

He added that further hydropower opportunities under the 5,000 MW programme are being evaluated.
