Indian Railways has launched a special round-trip package for the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja season. Passengers booking both onward and return tickets together can get a 20% discount on the base fare of their return journey.

This move is aimed at managing heavy passenger traffic during the festive rush and encouraging people to plan their trips in advance.

Travel Dates and Booking Schedule to Avail the 20% Discount

The offer covers two travel windows:

  • Onward journey: October 13 to October 26, 2025
  • Return journey: November 17 to December 1, 2025

Bookings for the onward journey open on August 14, 2025. The return ticket must be booked immediately after, using the connecting journey feature.

Who Can Get the 20% Discount from Indian Railways?

The 20% rebate is available to all passengers who:

  • Book confirmed tickets for both directions
  • Travel on the same origin–destination pair
  • Use the same class for both legs
  • Travel with the same set of passengers in both directions

The scheme is valid across all trains and classes, including special trains, but excludes Flexi fare trains.

What Should Travellers Note Before Availing the 20% Discount?

  • Both tickets must be booked using the same method: either fully online or fully at a ticket counter.
  • The regular 60-day advance booking rule is waived for return tickets under this scheme.
  • No changes, refunds, or modifications are allowed once the tickets are booked.
  • Other discounts, vouchers, passes, or PTOs cannot be combined with this offer.
  • The 20% discount applies only to the base fare of the return journey. Onward fare remains unchanged.
  • There will be no extra charges during chart preparation.

Why It Matters

This scheme not only helps passengers save money but also helps Indian Railways manage crowds better during the busiest travel season of the year. It encourages people to plan and book in advance, making the festive season more hassle-free.
