The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a temporary waiver on the ₹75 fee for updating email addresses in Aadhaar. The move applies to updates made via the official Aadhaar mobile application.
The waiver will be effective for a 6-month period starting July 1, 2026. This initiative aims to encourage more users to update their Aadhaar details digitally.
UIDAI issued an official memorandum confirming that Aadhaar holders can update their email address without any fee during the specified period. The waiver is valid from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
Earlier, users were required to pay ₹75 for updating demographic details such as email addresses. The current exemption applies exclusively to updates completed through the Aadhaar mobile application.
The decision to waive the fee is part of UIDAI’s broader strategy to promote digital service adoption. By removing the ₹75 charge, the authority aims to incentivise residents to keep their Aadhaar data accurate and up to date.
Updated contact details, especially email addresses, improve communication and access to Aadhaar-linked services. The initiative also aligns with efforts to minimise reliance on physical enrolment centres.
UIDAI has been expanding its digital ecosystem through platforms such as the myAadhaar portal and mobile application. Recently, the authority extended the free online document update facility until June 14, 2027.
Under this, users can update Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents online without charges. These steps are aimed at simplifying user access and improving service efficiency.
The waiver is limited to email address updates made through the Aadhaar mobile application only. Updates carried out at physical Aadhaar centres or through other channels will continue to attract standard charges.
Additionally, the waiver does not extend to other demographic or biometric updates. This targeted approach ensures focused adoption of digital channels while maintaining existing service frameworks.

The UIDAI’s decision to waive the ₹75 fee for Aadhaar email updates reflects a push towards digital-first service delivery. By offering free updates through the mobile application, the authority aims to improve data accuracy and user participation.
The limited-time waiver provides an incentive for users to transition to online platforms. Overall, the initiative complements ongoing efforts to modernise Aadhaar-related services and enhance accessibility.
