Building a corpus of ₹3.5 crore may appear difficult when the initial monthly investment is only ₹5,000. However, the calculation changes significantly when the SIP amount is increased gradually every year.
A step up SIP calculator helps illustrate how regular contributions, annual increases and long term compounding can work together over an extended investment period.
The estimated corpus of approximately ₹3.54 crore is based on the following assumptions:
Starting monthly SIP: ₹5,000
Annual step-up rate: 8%
Investment period: 30 years
Expected annualised return: 12%
Estimated total corpus: ₹3,54,11,947
Total amount invested: ₹67,98,120
Estimated investment returns: ₹2,86,13,827
These figures show that the investor contributes nearly ₹68 lakh over the entire 30-year period. The remaining ₹2.86 crore represents the estimated growth generated through compounding, based on the assumed return.
The starting monthly SIP remains relatively modest, but the contribution does not stay at ₹5,000 for the full 30 years. It rises by 8% annually.
During the 1st year, the investor contributes ₹60,000. In the second year, the monthly SIP becomes ₹5,400, resulting in an annual contribution of ₹64,800. Each subsequent year begins with another 8% increase.
This gradual rise in contributions has a substantial impact over three decades. The investor contributes more during the later years, when income may also be higher, while the earlier investments receive more time to compound.
The combination of increasing contributions and a long investment period is the main reason the estimated corpus reaches approximately ₹3.54 crore.

A starting SIP of ₹5,000 per month can mathematically grow to approximately ₹3.54 crore over 30 years when the monthly contribution is increased by 8% annually and the investment earns an assumed annualised return of 12%.
The step up SIP calculator estimates a total investment of ₹67,98,120 and estimated returns of ₹2,86,13,827. The calculation demonstrates the combined impact of rising contributions, time and compounding.
