Major Nationwide Bank Holiday

Christmas on December 25 will be a bank holiday throughout India. All branches across states and union territories will remain closed, though online and mobile banking services will continue to operate as usual.

State-Specific Holidays in December 2025

A number of states observe unique cultural and regional holidays in December. These include:

  • Indigenous Faith Day in Arunachal Pradesh on 1 December
  • Feast of St. Francis Xavier in Goa on 3 December
  • Pa Togan Nengminja in Meghalaya on 12 December
  • The Death Anniversary of U SoSo Tham in Meghalaya on 18 December
  • Goa Liberation Day on 19 December
  • Christmas-related holidays in states like Mizoram, Nagaland and more on 24 and 26 December.
  • Death Anniversary of U Kiang Nangbah in Nagaland on 30 December
  • New Year's Eve/Imoinu Iratpa in Manipur and Mizoram on 31 December

Losoong / Namsoong Holidays in Gangtok

In Sikkim, particularly in Gangtok, banks will remain closed on 20 December and 22 December for the Losoong / Namsoong festival. This festival marks the Sikkimese New Year and is one of the most important traditional celebrations in the region.

Weekend Closures

In addition to festival-related holidays, banks will also remain closed on the second Saturday of the month, which falls on 13 December 2025.
