The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched its new Aadhaar mobile application on July 1, 2026, replacing the mAadhaar app as part of a phased rollout. The transition has raised concerns among users about whether Aadhaar details stored in the existing app will be deleted.

UIDAI has clarified that there is no need to panic. Existing Aadhaar records will not be deleted immediately, and users will continue to have access to their details during the migration period. The authority has advised users to begin shifting to the new Aadhaar application as the older app is being phased out.

Will My Aadhaar Data Be Deleted After the mAadhaar App is Retired?

No. UIDAI has confirmed that Aadhaar records stored through the existing mAadhaar application will remain available during the transition to the new app.

The phased rollout has been designed to ensure a smooth migration without disrupting access to essential Aadhaar services. Core details will be gradually transferred to the new application, allowing users to continue accessing their Aadhaar information during the migration.

Can I Continue Using the mAadhaar App?

Yes. Although the mAadhaar application was formally retired on June 30, 2026, users can continue using the existing app while the migration is underway.

UIDAI has stated that limited access to mAadhaar may continue during the transition. However, users are encouraged to install and start using the new Aadhaar application, as the older app is being phased out.

Should I Uninstall the mAadhaar App?

Users are advised to install the new Aadhaar application and complete the migration process before removing the existing mAadhaar app.

Continuing to use the current application until the migration is successfully completed will help ensure uninterrupted access to Aadhaar services.

What's New in the Aadhaar App?

The new Aadhaar application introduces several features aimed at improving convenience, security, and user privacy.

Some of the key features include:

  • QR code-based verification

  • Face authentication

  • Privacy-focused data sharing

  • Secure digital Aadhaar sharing

Instead of submitting physical photocopies of Aadhaar, users can now share only the information required for a particular service, reducing the risk of identity misuse or data theft.

Is Carrying a Physical Aadhaar Card Still Necessary?

In many cases, digital verification through the new Aadhaar application may be sufficient.

The application enables users to verify their identity digitally, reducing the need to carry or submit physical Aadhaar copies for supported services.

Why Has UIDAI Launched the New Aadhaar App?

According to UIDAI, the objective of the new Aadhaar application is to simplify identity verification, enhance data security, and improve the overall user experience.

The application also focuses on protecting user privacy through consent-based data sharing, allowing users to reveal only the information required for a particular transaction.

Conclusion

As the new Aadhaar application comes into effect, UIDAI has clarified that users do not need to worry about losing Aadhaar records stored in the existing mAadhaar app. Aadhaar details will remain accessible during the phased migration, while users are encouraged to begin transitioning to the new application.
