Hurry! 4 Days Left to Deadline to Switch from NPS to UPS

The Government of India has introduced a one-time, one-way migration facility for central government employees who had previously opted for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), allowing them to switch back to the National Pension System (NPS).
In an official notification, the Ministry of Finance announced that the last date for eligible employees and retired personnel currently under UPS to opt for NPS is September 30, 2025. After this deadline, employees who decide to remain under NPS will not be allowed to migrate to UPS under any circumstances.
Key Guidelines for Switching from UPS to NPS
The Finance Ministry has outlined specific conditions for availing the switch:
- Eligible employees are allowed to exercise this option only once. Once moved to NPS, they cannot revert to UPS.
- The switch must be made at least one year prior to the date of superannuation, or at least three months before the date of voluntary retirement, whichever is earlier.
- The switch facility is not available to employees who are facing disciplinary action or have such proceedings pending or contemplated. Have been removed, dismissed, or compulsorily retired as a penalty.
- Employees who do not opt for the switch by the deadline will continue under UPS by default.
