Goa Launches Bima Sakhi Yojana to Empower Women

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant introduced the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ in the state on Tuesday, aiming to provide “insurance for all.” Goa becomes the second state, after Haryana, to implement this initiative envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Eligibility and Training 

The Bima Sakhi Yojana, launched by Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), targets women aged 18-70 years who have completed at least Class X. Beneficiaries will receive specialised training and a stipend for the first 3 years. After training, they can work as LIC agents. Some graduates may even qualify for development officer positions at LIC.

Women’s Empowerment and Insurance Awareness 

Chief Minister Sawant emphasised that the scheme not only empowers women but also increases life insurance coverage at the grassroots level. By creating awareness about life insurance, the government aims to ensure every Goan understands its importance.

Financial Support for Bima Sakhis 

During the 3-year training period, Bima Sakhis will receive a stipend of ₹7,000 per month in the first year, ₹6,000 in the second, and ₹5,000 in the third. In total, each Bima Sakhi will earn ₹2.16 lakh over the 3 years.

CM Sawant urged all women to join the scheme and contribute to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat 2047” (Developed India by 2047).
