
After the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, central government employees and pensioners are eagerly waiting for clarity on salary and pension hikes. Once the commission finalises its report and the government approves it, revised salaries will be implemented for Group A, B, C and D employees.
Pension payouts will also be revised based on the new basic pay.
The key factor in any pay commission is the fitment factor. It is a multiplier used to revise the existing basic pay.
For example, during the 7th Pay Commission, a fitment factor of 2.57 increased the minimum basic salary from ₹7,440 to ₹18,000.
Final salary hike under the 8th Pay Commission will largely depend on the fitment factor approved.
As per news reports, the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission could be in the range of 1.83 to 2.86, with most expectations between 1.9 and 2.5. However, a factor similar to the 7th Pay Commission (2.57) is also possible.
