EPFO UAN Activation Deadline Extended to June 30, 2025

In a significant update for salaried employees, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has once again extended the deadline to activate the Universal Account Number (UAN) and complete Aadhaar seeding with their bank account.
This step is mandatory to avail benefits under the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme, which was first announced in the Union Budget 2024.
New Deadline: June 30, 2025
As per the circular dated May 30, 2025, issued by the EPFO, the new deadline gives employees additional time to comply with this essential process. This deadline has already seen multiple extensions, indicating the importance and scale of this ongoing update.
What is UAN and Why is Activation Important?
The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit unique number issued by the EPFO that allows employees to manage all their Provident Fund (PF) accounts across different employers. Once activated, UAN offers streamlined access to:
- View PF passbooks
- Submit claims online for withdrawal or transfer
- Track claim status in real-time
- Update KYC and personal details
Under the ELI Scheme, only those who have an active UAN and Aadhaar-linked bank account are eligible for monetary benefits.
Missing the Deadline Could Mean Losing Out on ELI Scheme Benefits
Employees who fail to activate their UAN or link Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts may miss out on the financial support offered under the ELI Scheme (Types A, B, and C). The scheme, launched by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in 2024, aims to boost employment and incentivise formalisation.
