The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will start crediting annual interest for FY2025-26 to subscribers' accounts from July 15, 2026, Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Wednesday, as per The Moneycontrol report.
Interest will be credited at 8.25%, with around ₹1.44 lakh crore expected to be transferred to nearly 34 crore subscriber accounts. Mandaviya said the interest credit exercise has been completed earlier than in previous years after changes to EPFO's technology infrastructure.
In earlier years, subscribers generally received the interest amount in September or October, while in some cases the process extended into November.
The shorter timeline follows the completion of EPFO's Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES) project. The organisation has shifted member records from multiple regional databases to a single national database, replacing the earlier system under which each regional office maintained its own records.
Under the revised process, interest is calculated centrally and verified before the amount is reflected in subscribers' passbooks.
The new database also allows member-related services to be processed from any authorised EPFO office, instead of being restricted to the regional office where the account is registered.
Along with the new platform, EPFO has introduced changes to claim processing and member services. A common online portal now provides access to provident fund balances, claim status, pensionable service details and benefit records.
Advance claims filed by members with fully KYC-compliant accounts will now be eligible for auto-settlement up to ₹5 lakh, compared with the earlier limit of ₹1 lakh.
Claims will also undergo automated checks before processing to identify missing information, while members can submit clarifications online if required.
Other changes include automatic transfer of Aadhaar-linked provident fund accounts when employees switch jobs, centralised claim payments, simplified partial withdrawal rules and interest calculation up to the date of payment authorisation in final settlement cases.

Interest at 8.25% will be credited to EPFO subscribers from July 15, earlier than in previous years. The process has been advanced after the organisation completed its migration to a centralised database.
