EPFO Issues Security Advisory to Safeguard Your Account: Know the Key Steps

A security advisory has been published by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) in order to protect personal and financial information, according to the Livemint report.
Users are advised to visit only those websites of the EPFO which are official in order to secure their accounts from any sort of cyber-attack.
Important steps to secure EPFO account
According to the EPFO, members must go only to the official website of the EPFO which includes epfindia.gov.in, epfo.gov.in, and unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in.
Moreover, members are discouraged to click on any link received through SMS, e-mail, and social media which are not verified.
It is instructed that the members must not disclose any of their crucial information like UAN, PPO, password, Aadhaar, PAN, bank details, or OTP through any unauthorised websites.
Vigilance is advised while verifying URLs for authenticity and observing any spelling variations or unusual domain names.
Reporting and Awareness
Suspicious websites, messages, or phishing attempts should be promptly reported to EPFO's official helpdesk or through its cybersecurity channels.
It is essential to understand that EPFO does not request personal information, OTPs, or login credentials via phone calls, WhatsApp, SMS, social media, or email.
EPFO urges its members to follow their official social media channels for updates and alerts.
EPFO's Role and Recent Changes
The Employees' Provident Fund is a government-backed retirement savings scheme in India. Members can activate or generate a Universal Account Number (UAN) using the Umang app, following a recent service transition from the portal to the app.
For FY26, the interest rate for EPF and VPF was set at 8.25%, with interest credits finalised in July.
Policy updates permit members to withdraw up to 100% of eligible funds, allowing for 75% of their total provident fund balance after maintaining a required 25% minimum.
