India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), a government-owned entity under the Department of Posts, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to provide doorstep Digital Life Certificate (DLC) services to pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995.
The agreement was signed during EPFO’s 73rd Foundation Day between R. Viswesvaran, MD & CEO of IPPB, and Ramesh Krishnamurthi, Central Provident Fund Commissioner, EPFO.
The new service will allow EPFO pensioners to submit their life certificates from home instead of visiting banks or EPFO offices. The process will be carried out through India Post’s network of over 1.65 lakh post offices and 3 lakh postal service providers, including Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks. Each service provider will be equipped with digital devices supporting face authentication and fingerprint biometric verification.
EPFO will cover the full cost of issuing Digital Life Certificates, making the service free for all pensioners. The initiative is expected to benefit elderly pensioners, particularly those in rural and semi-urban areas, where travel to EPFO or bank branches is often difficult.
To generate a life certificate, pensioners can contact their Postman or Gramin Dak Sevak or visit the nearest post office. They will need to provide their Aadhaar number and pension details, followed by authentication through face or fingerprint verification. Once completed, a confirmation SMS will be sent to the pensioner, and the certificate can be viewed online the following day at jeevanpramaan.gov.in.
IPPB had introduced doorstep DLC services in 2020, using Aadhaar-enabled biometric authentication to generate Jeevan Pramaan certificates. The system reduced the turnaround time for certificate issuance and removed the need for physical paperwork.

With this agreement, IPPB will now extend its existing digital verification service to EPFO pensioners, making the annual certification process simpler and accessible from home.
