The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is expected to launch E-PRAAPTI (EPF Aadhaar-Based Access Portal for Tracking Inoperative Accounts) by the end of August, according to a report by The Hindu BusinessLine. The digital platform aims to help subscribers trace, link and claim funds lying in old or inactive provident fund (PF) accounts.

According to the report, EPFO is testing a back-end software upgrade to create a stable national database before rolling out the platform. The move is intended to simplify access to inoperative PF accounts, which currently hold nearly ₹9,330 crore across more than 30.91 lakh accounts.

What Is E-PRAAPTI?

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya first announced the initiative in April 2026. According to an ANI report published on April 29, E-PRAAPTI will provide an Aadhaar-based digital platform for identifying old EPF accounts, linking them with a Universal Account Number (UAN), and activating them.

The portal is also expected to help members securely access old EPF accounts that are not linked to a UAN, update their profile details, and complete the UAN-linking process. According to The Hindu BusinessLine, Aadhaar-based verification is expected to replace much of the existing manual process, reducing paperwork and speeding up claims.

How Will the E-PRAAPTI Portal Work?

The portal is primarily designed for members who still hold old Member Identification Numbers (MIDs) issued before the introduction of the Universal Account Number (UAN) in October 2014.

Once launched, the platform is expected to allow subscribers to:

  • Log in using Aadhaar-based authentication to trace old PF accounts.

  • Submit an online application with the required EPF details.

  • Automatically merge eligible old PF accounts with an existing UAN or facilitate withdrawals, subject to applicable rules.

  • Receive a new UAN if they have an MID but do not already possess one.

  • Undergo identity verification through the concerned EPFO office if an MID is unavailable.

The digital process is expected to reduce dependence on previous employers for verification and minimise paperwork.

Why the E-PRAAPTI Portal Matters

According to The Hindu BusinessLine, an EPF account becomes inoperative if it does not receive contributions for three consecutive years. While around 8 crore EPFO members contribute every month through 7.89 lakh establishments, millions of older accounts remain inactive, making it difficult for subscribers to access their accumulated savings.

The proposed platform is expected to simplify the process of tracing these accounts and recovering eligible funds through a single digital interface.

Conclusion

The proposed E-PRAAPTI portal is expected to make it easier for EPFO subscribers to trace, link and claim funds from old or inactive PF accounts using Aadhaar-based authentication. If launched as planned, it could simplify access to unclaimed provident fund savings while reducing paperwork and manual verification.
