On October 4, the Finance Ministry launched the "Apki Poonji, Apka Adhikar" campaign to help citizens reclaim ₹1.84 lakh crore in unclaimed financial assets. These funds are currently held by banks, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and the Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF).

Apki Poonji, Apka Adhikar: Why Do Unclaimed Deposits Matter?

Unclaimed deposits accumulate in the Depositors’ Education and Awareness Fund (DEAF) and earn only 3% simple interest per year, meaning account holders miss out on potential returns. These deposits include dormant savings and current accounts inactive for two years, as well as recurring or term deposits unclaimed for ten years, which are eventually transferred to the DEAF.

To simplify access, the RBI launched the UDGAM portal in August 2023, a centralised platform where users can track and consolidate unclaimed deposits across multiple banks.

How to Register on UDGAM for availing Apki Poonji, Apka Adhikar?

  1. Visit the UDGAM website and register.
  2. Enter your mobile number and name.
  3. Create a password and enter the captcha code.
  4. Accept the RBI disclaimer and declare legitimate use.
  5. Verify registration using the OTP sent to your mobile.

Searching for Unclaimed Deposits

Users need basic information to search for deposits: the account holder’s name, bank name(s), and at least one identification, such as PAN, voter ID, driving license, passport, or date of birth.

For non-individual entities like companies, HUFs, partnerships, or LLPs, additional details such as the authorised signatory, corporate identification number (CIN), or date of incorporation may be required. If these details are unavailable, searches can be done using the account holder’s or entity’s address.

Checking Search Results

The portal shows details such as the account holder’s name, bank name (with a link to the bank’s website), Unclaimed Deposit Reference Number (UDRN), and location. Each bank provides instructions for the claim process, which must be completed directly with the respective bank. UDGAM does not settle claims; it only helps identify unclaimed deposits and guides users on how to claim them.

Banks on the UDGAM Portal

As of October 2025, 30 banks are part of the UDGAM portal, covering around 90% of unclaimed deposits in DEAF, making it easier for most citizens to access their funds.

Conclusion

The UDGAM portal provides a simple and secure way for individuals and entities to locate and reclaim unclaimed deposits from multiple banks. Citizens are encouraged to register and check their accounts to ensure their savings are returned and put to use, in line with the "Apki Poonji, Apka Adhikar" initiative.
