The Centre has officially launched Aarogya Setu 2.0, transforming the once COVID-19 contact-tracing application into a comprehensive digital healthcare platform under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda unveiled the revamped app in New Delhi, describing it as a single, citizen-centric gateway for accessing healthcare services, managing digital health records, and availing government-backed health services.
With nearly 20 crore downloads, the government is leveraging the app's widespread adoption to accelerate the rollout of digital healthcare services and strengthen India's digital public health infrastructure.
Aarogya Setu 2.0 serves as a unified digital interface for healthcare services linked to ABDM. Users can create and manage their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), securely store and share digital medical records, and register at hospitals through the "Scan & Register" feature.
The app also enables users to digitise prescriptions and medical reports, receive medication reminders, manage family health profiles, and access PM-JAY insurance services. Additionally, it offers GPS-based searches for nearby hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres, blood banks, and doctors, making healthcare services more accessible through a single platform.
One of the biggest upgrades in Aarogya Setu 2.0 is its AI-powered medical record digitisation. Using Artificial Intelligence tools, including Google's open-source Medical Data Toolkit, the application converts scanned prescriptions, lab reports, and PDFs into structured digital health records. Users can also integrate wearable devices to track heart rate, glucose levels, calories burned, and daily activity.
The platform also introduces a PM-JAY Wallet, allowing users to monitor insurance coverage, remaining balance, claims, reimbursements, and family-wise utilisation. To strengthen data security, the new "My Consent" feature enables users to approve, deny, or revoke permissions for sharing their health records, ensuring information is shared only with explicit user consent.
The launch of Aarogya Setu 2.0 marks a significant milestone in the government's efforts to build an integrated digital healthcare ecosystem. By combining AI-powered health record management, ABHA services, insurance benefits, hospital discovery, and privacy-focused data sharing on a single platform, the app is designed to simplify healthcare access for millions of Indians.
As the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission continues to expand, Aarogya Setu 2.0 is expected to play a central role in driving digital health adoption, improving continuity of care, and making healthcare services more connected, accessible, and patient-centric across the country.
