The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the free online document update facility for Aadhaar holders. This service will now remain available without charge until June 14, 2027, on the myAadhaar portal.
The decision was formalised through an official memorandum dated May 13, 2026. The move follows strong user participation in digital updates and aims to further increase accuracy in resident records.
UIDAI has allowed Aadhaar holders to continue updating their documents online free of cost for an additional year. The extension applies specifically to updates made through the myAadhaar portal.
Normally, updates at physical Aadhaar enrolment centres attract a fee, making the online option more accessible. The authority highlighted that the extension was driven by a positive response from residents opting for digital updates across the country.
The free facility enables users to update key identity and address documents linked to their Aadhaar number. This includes Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA), which are essential for maintaining accurate demographic records.
Aadhaar serves as a widely used 12-digit identification number for accessing both government and private services. Ensuring updated records is important for smooth verification processes across multiple platforms.
Users can update their Aadhaar details through a structured process on the myAadhaar portal. The key steps include:
For updating address details, users are required to follow a specific set of steps on the Aadhaar self-service portal. They must log in and select the ‘Proceed to Update Address’ option.
The process involves entering the new address and uploading supporting proof documents. After submission, users receive a URN, which allows them to track the application until completion.
