The Aadhaar App has crossed 40 million (4 crore) downloads, according to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The app provides access to several Aadhaar-related services, including updating certain details, downloading e-Aadhaar, and managing biometric authentication.
Government data shows significant usage of these services, particularly for updating contact information and securing Aadhaar records. The milestone highlights the growing adoption of digital identity management tools among Aadhaar holders.
According to MeitY, the Aadhaar App has now surpassed 4 crore downloads. The application enables users to access a range of Aadhaar-related services directly through their mobile devices.
Government data indicates that citizens have increasingly used the platform for updating personal details and managing Aadhaar-linked services. The app forms part of the wider digital governance ecosystem aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for Aadhaar users.
The Aadhaar App allows users to perform several functions without visiting a physical centre in many cases. These services include updating a mobile number, address, and email address, downloading e-Aadhaar, and locking or unlocking Aadhaar biometrics.
Users can also digitally show, share, and verify their identity when required. The availability of these services through a single platform has contributed to increased user adoption.
The ability to update a mobile number through the Aadhaar App depends on whether the existing number is already linked to Aadhaar. If a registered mobile number is active and available with the user, the update can be completed through the app.
However, individuals who have lost access to their registered mobile number or have never linked a mobile number with Aadhaar must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or an authorised enrolment and update centre. According to government data, nearly 49 lakh mobile numbers have been updated through the app so far.
Users can submit address update requests digitally through the Aadhaar App. UIDAI also provides the Head of Family (HoF) facility, under which a family member whose Aadhaar contains the correct address can approve the request through the application.
This option is designed to simplify address updates for eligible users. MeitY reported that approximately 11.65 lakh address updates have been completed using the app.
