SIP Stoppage Ratio Falls for 5th Straight Month to 78.53% in September 2026

The mutual fund SIP stoppage ratio fell to 78.53% in September 2026 from 81.05% in August 2026, according to The Economic Times report citing data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). The ratio was 76.27% in September 2025.
The decline continued for the fifth consecutive month. The ratio had stood at 95.46% in May 2026, before easing over the following months.
New Registrations Exceed Discontinued SIPs
Mutual funds recorded 63.26 lakh new SIP registrations in September, while 49.68 lakh SIPs were discontinued or completed their tenure. In August, new registrations stood at 66.40 lakh against 53.82 lakh discontinued or completed SIPs.
The stoppage ratio measures discontinued or completed SIPs against new registrations. A ratio above 100% means the number of SIPs discontinued or completed exceeds new registrations.
The figure also includes plans that have reached the end of their tenure. Investors may also stop an existing SIP and start another as part of a portfolio change.
SIP Inflows Touch ₹32,490 Crore
Monthly SIP inflows rose to ₹32,490 crore in September from ₹32,297 crore in August. The September figure was 11% higher than the ₹29,361 crore recorded in the same month last year.
The number of contributing SIP accounts stood at 10.06 crore. SIP assets reached ₹17.86 lakh crore, accounting for 21.6% of the mutual fund industry's total assets under management (AUM).
Mutual Fund AUM Declines 5.1%
The mutual fund industry's AUM fell 5.1% month on month to ₹82.64 lakh crore in September. AMFI Chief Executive Venkat Chalasani attributed the decline primarily to mark-to-market losses and outflows from debt funds.
Equity mutual funds recorded inflows of ₹38,307 crore, marking the 67th consecutive month of positive inflows. Total mutual fund folios reached 28.62 crore, with 27.12 lakh net folios added during September.
