The mutual fund SIP stoppage ratio declined to 95% in May 2026, contrasting previous months with values over 100%.  

The number of new SIPs registered during this month exceeded the number of discontinued SIPs, indicating a positive trend despite market challenges. 

New SIP Registrations Outpace Discontinuations 

As per the news report, in May 2026, the mutual fund industry saw 54.16 lakh new SIPs being registered, while 51.70 lakh SIPs were discontinued or completed their tenure.  

The stoppage ratio thus declined from 101.14% in April to 95% in May, marking a turn in the balance of registrations over discontinuations.  

In April, the industry recorded 50.71 lakh new SIPs against 51.29 lakh discontinued ones. 

This shift in the stoppage ratio underscores growing investor confidence and commitment to mutual funds as a wealth accumulation strategy, even amid volatile market conditions.  

The industry reported a total SIP inflow of ₹30,954 crore for May 2026. 

Industry AUM and Monthly SIP Contributions 

During May, the SIP assets under management (AUM) amounted to ₹17,12,126.14 crore, representing 21% of the overall industry AUM, which remained relatively stable at ₹81.58 lakh crore.  

The number of contributing SIP accounts remained consistent at 9.64 crore. 

Comparative Data from April 2026 

April saw a SIP asset base slightly smaller compared to May, with a total AUM of ₹47,41,872 crore in retail mutual funds. The subsequent month showed a minor growth to ₹47,91,061 crore. 

The retail folios increased from 21,00,01,387 in April to 21,10,12,873 in May, while the total mutual fund folios rose by 12.56 lakh, reaching 27,65,67,797.
