FY26 Starts Strong for Mutual Funds: 3 Lakh New Investors and ₹26,600 Crore SIP Inflows in April

The mutual fund industry witnessed a robust start to the financial year 2025–26, with 3 lakh unique investors added in April. The investor count increased from 5.42 crore in March to 5.45 crore in April 2025, signalling rising awareness and interest among retail investors.
Folio Count Crosses 23.6 Crore
During April, the industry recorded 18 lakh new folios, taking the total folio count to 23.63 crore. This continued rise reflects a deepening penetration of mutual funds across both urban and rural markets.
SIP Momentum Remains Strong
Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) maintained their growth momentum in April 2025 with notable increases across key metrics:
- New SIP registrations: 46 lakh (up from 40.2 lakh in March)
- SIP contribution: ₹26,600 crore (up from ₹25,900 crore)
- SIP AUM: ₹13.90 lakh crore (up from ₹13.35 lakh crore), a 4% increase
- Equity SIP AUM: ₹12 lakh crore, accounting for 86% of total SIP AUM
- Outstanding SIP accounts: 8.38 crore

Growth in T30 and B30 Markets
Investor engagement continued to rise in both the T30 (top 30 cities) and B30 (beyond top 30 cities) segments:
- T30 folios: Increased from 12.25 crore to 12.33 crore, up by 0.65%
- New folios in T30: 3 lakh through direct investments, 5 lakh via distributors
- B30 folios: Rose from 11.20 crore to 11.30 crore, a 1% increase
- New folios in B30: 5 lakh each from direct and distributor channels
Out of the total 18 lakh folios added in April, 10 lakh came through distributors and 8 lakh through direct plans.
AUM Growth Across Segments
Assets under management showed positive movement across both T30 and B30 regions:
- T30 AUM: Increased by 7% from ₹53.17 lakh crore to ₹56.84 lakh crore
- B30 AUM: Grew by 5% from ₹12.57 lakh crore to ₹13.16 lakh crore
This growth reflects a combination of fresh investments and favourable market conditions.
Rise in Average AUM per Folio
Average ticket size also saw improvement during the month:
- T30 cities: From ₹2.50 lakh to ₹2.58 lakh
- B30 cities: From ₹97,000 to ₹1 lakh
- Combined average for retail investors: From ₹1.77 lakh to ₹1.82 lakh
An increase in the average investment per folio indicates stronger investor confidence and greater allocation per investor.
