Dhanteras 2026: Gold ETFs Lose Their Shine, Fall 4% in Just One Month

Dhanteras 2026 falls on Friday, November 6, an occasion when many Indian households traditionally purchase gold. However, this year's festive season comes amid a decline in bullion prices, with gold exchange traded funds (ETFs) recording losses of around 4%over the past month.
As per a report, domestic gold prices are hovering near ₹1,42,000 per 10 grams, compared with their earlier peak of nearly ₹1,80,000, representing a correction of more than 20%.
Why Gold Prices Fell Ahead of Dhanteras 2026?
As per news reports, a stronger US dollar, elevated interest rates and geopolitical developments in West Asia have contributed to the recent decline in gold prices.
Higher interest rates increase the opportunity cost of holding gold, which does not generate interest income. Meanwhile, a stronger dollar can make bullion more expensive for buyers using other currencies.
Despite the correction, continued buying from the central bank and investment demand through gold ETFs remain key factors influencing the metal's performance.
Gold ETFs Decline Up to 4.53% in One Month
The correction has affected gold ETFs. As per a Livemint report, all 25 listed schemes on Dhan’s gold ETF recorded negative returns over the past month as of November 4, 2026.
Losses ranged between 3.66% and 4.53%. Zerodha Gold ETF declined 4.53%, followed by Mirae Asset Gold ETF at 4.47% and UTI Gold ETF at 4.41%.
Gold ETFs Returns Since Last Diwali
Gold ETFs have held up well over time, even with their fall. According to Livemint, since Diwali 2025, which was celebrated on October 20, these funds delivered an average return of 9.22% across 22 different schemes.
Nippon India Gold ETF BeES led the way with 12.58%, just ahead of Invesco Gold ETF at 12.50% and ICICI Gold ETF at 12.39%. On top of that, Value Research data (cited in the same report) shows the whole category returning 6.94% so far this year, 18.64% over the past year, 31.90% over three years, and 23.15% over the last five years, as of October 26, 2026.
Gold ETF Inflows Continue to Surge
According to the reported figures, gold ETF inflows reached approximately $39 billion through September 2026.
