Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund has submitted the draft Investment Strategy Information Document (ISID) for the Apex Equity Long-Short Fund under the Apex Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) framework.

The filing sets out the proposed structure, investment mandate, and operating conditions of the scheme before its launch. The New Fund Offer (NFO) dates have not been disclosed in the document.

Equity-Focused Portfolio

The proposed scheme will invest primarily in listed equities and equity-related instruments. Under normal market conditions, equity exposure will range between 80% and 100% of the portfolio.

The fund may also invest up to 20% in debt and money market instruments and another 20% in Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs).

Investments in overseas securities can account for up to 35% of net assets. The benchmark for the scheme will be the NIFTY 500 Total Return Index (TRI).

Use of Long and Short Positions

The filing allows the fund to take both long and short positions. While long investments will be made in selected listed companies, short exposure can be created through derivative instruments within the limits prescribed by SEBI.

Unhedged short exposure has been capped at 25% of net assets, while overall derivative exposure can go up to 100%. The document also permits the use of stock lending, arbitrage strategies, futures and options as part of portfolio management.

Subscription and Exit Terms

The minimum investment amount has been proposed at ₹10 lakh for regular investors and ₹1 lakh for accredited investors. Units will be offered at a face value of ₹10 during the NFO.

After reopening, investors will be able to subscribe and redeem units on business days. A 1% exit load will apply if units are redeemed within 365 days of allotment, while no exit load will be charged after one year.

Redemption proceeds are proposed to be paid within three working days.

Conclusion

The Apex Equity Long-Short Fund remains at the draft stage, with its investment strategy and key terms now placed in the public domain. Further announcements are expected before the NFO opens.
