Abakkus Mutual Fund Receives SEBI Nod for SIF Platform ‘Fokkus’

Abakkus Mutual Fund has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to enter the Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) segment, as per news reports.
The fund house will use “Fokkus” as the brand name for its SIF platform. Abakkus already operates across mutual funds, portfolio management services (PMS) and alternative investment funds (AIFs).
Equity, Debt and Hybrid Plans
Abakkus noted that it plans to introduce investment strategies across equity, debt, and hybrid categories through Fokkus. The plans will be subject to the applicable regulatory requirements and the necessary filings and approvals.
The fund house has not disclosed the specific strategies to be offered under the platform. Details such as investment objectives, asset allocation, and risk factors are also yet to be announced.
SIF Rules Introduced in 2025
SEBI brought the SIF framework into effect from April 1, 2025. The framework allows mutual fund houses to offer certain differentiated investment strategies under a separate regulated structure.
SIFs sit between conventional mutual fund products and offerings such as PMS and AIFs. The framework also sets eligibility and investment requirements for funds operating in this segment.
Details to Follow
The launch schedule for Fokkus has not been announced. Abakkus said information on the proposed strategies would be provided after the required regulatory filings and approvals are completed.
Sunil Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of Abakkus, said the fund house intends to use the flexibility available under the SIF framework for its new strategies.
Focus on Investment Process
Vaibhav Chugh, chief executive officer of Abakkus Mutual Fund, said investment processes and risk management would be key areas for the new platform. He also said investor education would form part of the fund house’s work in the category.
Abakkus Mutual Fund received its SEBI registration in August 2025. Abakkus Investment Managers Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Abakkus Asset Manager Ltd, is the asset management company.
