Zoho Selected for Government Email Service After Extensive Security Audits, Says Founder

Zoho Mail has been chosen to manage the National Informatics Centre’s (NIC) email system following rigorous vetting, including around 20 audits of its code, data centers, and security protocols.

Founder Sridhar Vembu confirmed that more than 1.5 million government users are already onboard, highlighting the extensive process behind its selection, as per the Moneycontrol report.

Zoho’s Selection Amid Government Scrutiny

As per the news report, amid discussions over the government’s adoption of Zoho Mail, Sridhar Vembu emphasised that the platform was selected after a thorough evaluation by NIC.

He stated that the selection involved exhaustive audits covering all aspects of Zoho Mail’s operations, including security practices, code integrity, and data center compliance.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) clarified that it does not favour any single company in such tenders, underscoring that Zoho’s selection was purely based on merit and compliance with security requirements.

Background of the NIC Email Migration

In 2023, MeitY issued a tender for migrating the NIC’s email system, which serves nearly 33 lakh government employees, to a secure cloud-based service. Zoho Mail emerged as the winning solution, offering enhanced security features and robust infrastructure.
