The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has brought satellite internet provider Starlink onboard its Aadhaar authentication system for customer verification. This collaboration will enable seamless, paperless onboarding through Aadhaar e-KYC, strengthening India’s digital public infrastructure.
Starlink Satellite Communication Pvt Ltd will now use Aadhaar authentication to verify customers. This process, fully compliant with Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, will allow individuals to complete onboarding in a smooth, secure, and paperless manner. Aadhaar-based e-KYC will be voluntary for users as per existing rules.
The move marks a convergence between Aadhaar, one of the world’s most trusted digital identity systems, and Starlink’s global satellite internet services. This collaboration reflects the scalability of Aadhaar and its ability to enable innovation in service delivery while maintaining compliance with regulatory frameworks.
Starlink has been designated as a Sub-Authentication User Agency and Sub-eKYC User Agency under UIDAI. The appointment was formalized in the presence of UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, Deputy Director General Manish Bhardwaj, and Starlink India Director Parnil Urdhwareshe.
Aadhaar continues to serve as the backbone of India’s digital ecosystem, driving ease of living and doing business. Its face authentication solution is also gaining wider acceptance due to its convenience and security for Aadhaar number holders.
The integration of Aadhaar-based e-KYC with Starlink’s services underscores the strength of India’s digital public infrastructure. By enabling secure and transparent customer onboarding, this collaboration enhances both connectivity and trust in digital services.
