As per the news reports, Uber has started managed operations at two railway stations, Ahmedabad and Howrah, in partnership with Indian Railways. This is the first time the ride-hailing platform will run station-linked operations in India.

Scale of Passenger Movement

Ahmedabad Railway Station serves around 1.2 lakh passengers every day. It is the 7th largest station in the country and is expected to handle more than 3 lakh passengers daily by 2053. Howrah Railway Station, one of India’s busiest, records footfall of more than 10 lakh passengers daily and is a major entry point to Eastern India.

Station Integration

Uber will function from parking areas that are directly connected to the station premises. This arrangement is meant to make pick-up and drop-off easier for passengers and drivers. It also gives drivers access to steady passenger traffic from the stations.

Transport Connectivity

The partnership is part of a plan to improve links between public transport and private mobility providers. With structured entry and exit points, passengers are expected to face fewer disruptions when switching from trains to road transport.

Other Partnerships

In a separate development last month, Uber entered into an agreement with the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). As part of that plan, Uber is providing last-mile connectivity with cars, autos, and two-wheelers along the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, covering stations including Anand Vihar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, and Meerut South.

Conclusion

With the tie-up at Ahmedabad and Howrah, Uber has begun its first managed presence at Indian railway stations. The focus is on smoother passenger transfer, dedicated parking access, and integration with stations that handle some of the country’s highest daily volumes.
