Torrent Pharmaceuticals has been served a penalty of ₹41 crore (₹ 41,33,84,165) by the Central GST Ahmedabad South Commissionerate for alleged wrongful GST refund claims related to its goods exports. The company plans to appeal the order, maintaining that there will be no significant financial impact. 

₹41 Crore Penalty Over Alleged GST Refund Discrepancy 

On November 28, 2025, Torrent Pharmaceuticals informed the stock exchanges that it received a penalty order of ₹41 crore issued by a Joint Commissioner of the Central GST, Ahmedabad South Commissionerate.  

The penalty arises from allegations of claiming GST refunds wrongly on goods exported under Section 74 of the CGST Act, 2017. This section covers tax not paid, short-paid, or wrongly refunded due to suppression or misstatement of facts. 

Company’s Response and Appeal Plans 

The company has stated that it will appeal against the penalty order. Torrent Pharma expressed confidence in obtaining relief through the appellate process. In its regulatory filing, it reassured stakeholders that there would be no material financial impact and all operations would continue uninterrupted during the legal process.
