On Thursday, October 1, 2026, the NIFTY50 index opened at 22,543.70 and went on to register an intraday high of 22,610.60. The index faced downward pressure during the session, touching an intraday low of 22,217.30 before closing at 22,421.95, down by 198.50 points or 0.88%. 

Advance Decline Ratio of NIFTY50 on October 1, 2026 

The advance-decline ratio for the NIFTY50 index leaned toward the bears, with 13 constituents out of the 50 ending the session in the green, while 37 closed in negative territory and 0 remained unchanged.

Infosys Limited (INFY) emerged as the top gainer on October 1, 2026, with its share price rising 4.11% to ₹1,035.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 1,43,94,409 shares. 

HDFC Life Insurance Company Limited (HDFCLIFE) ranked second among the top gainers, with its share price advancing 2.49% to ₹534.20 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 38,97,886 shares. 

HDFC Bank Limited (HDFCBANK) was the third top gainer, with its share price gaining 1.76% to ₹721.20 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 3,56,64,980 shares. 

Top Losers on October 1, 2026 

Bajaj Auto Limited (BAJAJ-AUTO) ended lower by 7.62% at ₹10,045.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 14,85,316 shares. 

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MARUTI) share price declined 4.86% to ₹11,386.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 8,77,236 shares. 

Shriram Finance Limited (SHRIRAMFIN) shares fell 3.84% to ₹945.00 per share on the NSE. The total traded volume on the NSE stood at 54,87,293 shares.

Conclusion 

The NIFTY50 index closed lower by 0.88% at 22,421.95. The market breadth remained negative with a weak advance-decline setup as 37 index constituents closed down. INFY, HDFCLIFE, and HDFCBANK emerged as the top gainers, while BAJAJ-AUTO, MARUTI, and SHRIRAMFIN were among the top losers on October 1, 2026.
