Thomas Cook India and its subsidiary SOTC Travel have reintroduced and expanded their China-focused tour plans following an increase in travel demand from Indian tourists. The decision comes after the return of direct flights between the two countries and an easier visa process for Indian travellers.
The companies said that bookings for China have increased in recent months, with most departures selling out ahead of time. This trend has continued even through October and November, which are usually off-season months. The updated packages are for a wider group of travellers, including families, professionals, couples, senior citizens, and solo tourists.
The new portfolio covers destinations such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an, along with newer additions like Chengdu, Chongqing, and Zhangjiajie. Key attractions include the Great Wall, the Terracotta Army, and the Bund in Shanghai.
Other experiences mentioned are Yangtze River cruises, LED-lit night tours, drone shows, and rides on the Shanghai Maglev train.
For convenience, porter services will be available at major train stations. Meal plans include both Indian and Chinese dishes, with Indian chefs travelling on certain routes to meet vegetarian requirements. The companies have also introduced multi-destination tours, such as China-Japan itineraries for the Cherry Blossom season.
Along with leisure travel, Thomas Cook and SOTC have reported higher interest from Indian companies for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) travel. Cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, and Chengdu are being used more frequently for conferences and incentive programmes due to improved infrastructure and air connectivity.
