Tesla's India Launch Sees Only 600 Bookings Since July: Report

Tesla has secured just over 600 car orders since it began sales in India on July 15, 2025, as per the Bloomberg report. The company plans to ship between 350 and 500 units in 2025, with the first batch expected to arrive from Shanghai in early September.
Delivery Locations
As per news reports, Deliveries will initially be restricted to Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Gurugram, where Tesla has a physical presence. Shipment size is being decided based on full payments received and the company’s ability to operate outside these four cities.
Model Launch and Pricing
As per news reports, the automaker launched its Model Y in India at a price of about $70,000. The rear-wheel drive version is listed at around ₹59.89 lakh, while the long-range model is priced at ₹67.89 lakh. A home charging unit is being sold separately for $420. In the United States, the Model Y costs about $46,000, but higher tariffs on imports place it in India’s luxury EV category.
Showrooms and Facilities
Tesla opened its first Indian showroom in Mumbai on July 15, 2025, followed by another in Delhi. The company has also leased a 33,000 sq. ft. service and retail space in Gurugram at a rent of about ₹40 lakh per month, on a 9-year agreement. Charging stations have been launched in Mumbai, with plans for additional hubs in Gurugram and later Bengaluru.
