Tesla has launched the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) in India at an ex-showroom price of ₹50.89 lakh, as per news reports. The introduction of the new variant comes with a reshuffle of the company's local Model Y range.
The Model Y RWD, previously priced at ₹59.89 lakh, and the Model Y Long Range RWD, priced at ₹67.89 lakh, have been discontinued.
Following the revision, Tesla's India portfolio now comprises the Model Y Premium RWD and the Model Y L Premium AWD 6-seater, which is priced at ₹61.99 lakh.
The new Model Y Premium receives several changes to the cabin. These include an all-black interior theme, a black headliner, and revised trim elements. A Zen Grey interior finish has also been added as an option.
The vehicle is equipped with a 16-inch touchscreen for front-seat occupants. Tesla has introduced updates to the display system, including improvements to responsiveness and interface functionality.
The Model Y Premium offers a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 500 km. The electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds.
The vehicle seats 5 passengers and provides storage space of up to 2,138 litres. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in July 2026.
The Model Y L, launched earlier this year, offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 681 km, cargo capacity of up to 2,539 litres and a claimed 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 5 seconds.
According to Tesla, both Model Y variants sold in India have received top safety ratings from agencies including NHTSA, IIHS, Euro NCAP, ANCAP and C-IASI.
The company is offering financing plans with EMIs starting from ₹39,990 and a down payment of ₹6 lakh, subject to lender approval. Tesla's Home Charging Programme is now available across all Indian states.
Tesla entered the Indian retail market in July 2025 with the opening of its first showroom. Data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) showed the company retailed 342 vehicles during FY26. Sales stood at 43 units in April 2026.
