Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services, has entered into a partnership with SINTEF, one of Europe’s largest independent research foundations. The collaboration focuses on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve elderly care and create solutions that help senior citizens live more independent and comfortable lives.
At the heart of this partnership lies SINTEF’s eHealth platform called SMILE (Smart Inclusive Living Environments). This platform aims to support older adults in managing their daily lives within their homes. With TCS’s deep experience in AI and digital innovation, SMILE will be upgraded to provide smarter and more personalized support for the elderly.
The unique feature of this initiative is its use of Social AI, which is a form of artificial intelligence designed to understand human behavior and emotions. Through this, care plans can be customized based on each individual’s needs. The system will learn about a senior citizen’s lifestyle, habits, and preferences, allowing for truly personalized support and improved quality of life.
While the main focus right now is on elderly care, TCS and SINTEF plan to expand their partnership into other areas. Future projects may include energy solutions, mobility innovations, and smart, secure community developments. These efforts reflect a shared vision of using technology to build sustainable and inclusive societies.
TCS has been operating in the Nordic region since 1991 and currently employs around 20,000 experts across Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark. The company has consistently been ranked among the top IT service providers in the region and has been recognized as a Top Employer in Norway for eleven consecutive years. In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, TCS reported consolidated revenues of over US$30 billion.

The TCS–SINTEF partnership marks an important milestone in applying AI for social good. By focusing on elderly care, it addresses one of society’s most pressing needs—supporting aging populations with dignity and independence. As this collaboration evolves, it could inspire more technology-driven solutions for a better, more connected future.
