India’s Tata Power Company Ltd has announced it will establish a 10-gigawatt (GW) solar-wafers and ingots manufacturing plant, marking one of the country’s largest ever such projects.
CEO Praveer Sinha said the move is intended to deepen Tata Power’s footprint across the solar-manufacturing value chain, complementing its existing 4.9 GW of cell and module capacity.
The planned facility will produce ingots and wafers: critical upstream components for solar modules. Tata Power said the investment aligns with India’s policy push for local manufacturing and import reduction in solar equipment supply.
The company added that it is exploring federal and state support schemes under output-linked incentives and expects to finalise the investment quantum in the forthcoming two months.
By moving upstream into ingots and wafers, Tata Power aims to capture value higher up the supply chain rather than just assembly of modules. With global solar supply chains under strain and trade barriers rising, this step could help India build resilience in renewable manufacturing. The project also supports national goals of energy transition and grid decarbonisation.

As of November 12, 2025, at 2:14 PM, the Tata Power share price is trading at ₹389.70 per share, reflecting a decline of 1.49% from the previous day's closing price.
The new 10 GW plant cements Tata Power’s ambition to become a full-chain solar manufacturer, while boosting India’s strategic manufacturing capabilities in renewables. Its progress will be a key indicator of how fast India can localise high-end solar manufacturing.
