As per the Economic Times, Tata Digital has started its third major strategy reset under new CEO Sajith Sivanandan (joined in September from Jio Mobile Digital Services). The company is moving from a GMV-driven model to tighter group-level digital integration, including cutting over 50% of Tata Neu's workforce to streamline the super-app.
Strategic Reviews Across Business Units
Digital marketing mandates from Titan, IHCL, Tata Motors and Tata Consumer Products are being centralised under Tata Digital, positioning the company as the core digital engine for the wider Tata ecosystem. Strategic assessments are also underway at BigBasket and Croma.
At BigBasket, the immediate focus is on BB Now, its express delivery vertical operating in a market dominated by fast-moving rivals such as Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart. Croma, meanwhile, is working on consolidating its retail network by closing unprofitable outlets and reinforcing its offline-first identity rather than competing with large-scale online marketplaces like Flipkart and Amazon.
Financial Performance
For FY25, Tata Digital reported operating revenue of ₹32,188 crore, a 13.8% decline from the previous year, while net losses narrowed to ₹828 crore compared with ₹1,201 crore in FY24. The new leadership team now faces the task of stabilising Tata Neu and steering the platform towards sustainable growth.
